Archive for Crib Bedding

With all the options out there in baby bedding, sheets made of cheap cotton just don’t cut it anymore. It practically feels like child abuse to lay your child down on a plastic mattress wrapped in thin cotton when you, yourself enjoy soft flannel, cozy fleece or comfy jersey.

I read once when I was doing some research about new ways to help me get my  baby sleeping through the night, that some babies are very sensitive to the cold of that plastic mattress and it would wake them up. Some mothers swore by putting down a fleece blanket or a receiving blanket before laying the baby down. These mothers all said that the baby would snuggle into the softness and the cold no longer bothered them.

I was up for trying anything at all that offered even the most remote chance of me getting that baby to sleep and stay asleep; warm baths, massage before bed, music that came on when the baby cried, hanging apple peelings in the windows (just checking to see if you’re paying attention) I was up for anything so I tried the fleece-blanket-in-the-crib trick.

It really did seem to help a bit, at least with setting the baby down and not having her pop right back up. I think our sleep problems are too big to solve entirely with fleece but it is an idea you might want to try.

Remember, your baby doesn’t get to have a pillow so their cute chubby little cheeks are spending a lot of time on the fabric your baby bedding’s made of.

Did you know you could get baby bedding sheets in fleece? It’s quite a step up from putting a fleece blanket under the baby. Imagine how cozy these would be on your baby’s sweet little face. (Note: Click on the pictures to see more details and pricing info)

Fleece Baby Safety Crib Sheet

Fleece isn’t the only snuggly material you can find baby bedding in, think of how soft a chenille crib sheet would be on baby’s skin:

Of course my favorite is jersey:

Kids Line Jersey Knit Fitted Crib Sheet - Ecru

Flannel bedding is nothing new, but you can even get it in organic now for your baby:

Naturepedic Organic Fitted Crib Sheet - Ivory Flannel

Babies have such amazing options these days. If you were a baby with your own credit card and you had the option to buy your own sheets, would you choose that cheap, thin cotton or some soft, snuggly fleece?

I think you know which you’d choose!

Modern baby bedding, anyone?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

What’s more exciting than finding out you’re expecting a baby? Probably finding out you’re expecting a baby if you’ve been trying for years to have one.

Not everyone’s lucky enough to get pregnant when their husband looks at them the right way.

A lot of women are more mature now when they start their families than her mothers’ generation and the generations before hers. When a woman is in her late thirties or early forties when she has a baby, she tends to be very comfortable with who she is.

She knows what she likes and what she doesn’t.

She and her husband are also likely to have a well-established career so she has money to spend on the baby’s room. If she wants to spend a hundred dollars on a baby monitor, she will. If she wants to invest hundreds of dollars in the latest and greatest in modern baby bedding then she does.

A woman with a sleek condo, decorated with contemporary furniture is not likely to adorn baby’s room with blue Parents with baby in home officeelephants or pink lambs. She probably won’t want any pastels in there at all.

And luckily, we’re living in the new millennium and anything we wish for is available at our fingertips as long as we have a credit card and an internet connection!

We had no idea what was out there in the way of modern baby bedding. Look at these adorable things we found for  baby boys:

And modern baby bedding for girls:

Pink and Brown Argyle Baby Bedding - 9 pc Crib Set

Or if you’re expecting a surprise:

You’re going to spend a lot of time in your baby’s room so you really should invest in bedding that makes you feel good.

We know one thing for sure, none of us decorate the room for the actual baby because everyone knows they don’t even see color until they’ve been kicking around the nursery for quite awhile. If we wanted to decorate the room for the baby, we’d use nothing but black and white.

So, don’t feel guilty about decorating the nursery to your tastes and not your baby who may or may not have tastes that are very modern. Baby bedding is mommy’s choice so if it’s modern you like, then go for it.

Choosing Baby Girl Bedding

Posted by: | Comments (5)

So you’re having a baby girl. Congratulations to you! Now first things first, you’re going to need a place to put your little angel once you bring her home.

Between us we have three daughters so we know how special that little pink bundle is. Of course, a blue bundle is great too, but there’s just something special about bringing home a little girl. When you first find out you’re having a healthy baby girl, bedding shopping seems like a logical first step. After telling your husband and/or your sister, mother, neighbor, etc., that is.

Assuming that the moment you found out you were pregnant you started your search for a nice safe crib (keeping recent crib recalls in mind), when you discover you’re carrying a baby girl, bedding’s the next on your list of items to dream about because it’s usually one of the first items you buy specifically for that baby.

You don’t have to stick to pink either, you know. There are tons of choices out there when it comes to the itty bitty bed sheets you choose for that baby girl. Bedding has come a long way and the options you have are limitless.

If it’s soft pink flannel with tiny white lambs you’re looking for – something totally innocent, traditional and sweet – of course you can find that at any department store or by a shorter and more convenient cruise to Amazon.

Here are a couple of beautiful, timeless sets:

As we mentioned, however, moms don’t have to settle for pink and yellow with flowers anymore when there’s a baby girl on the way.

Or if you know you’re having a baby girl, have you checked out your options as far as custom baby bedding goes?

Here are some general tips for buying baby bedding:

  • Make sure you get something you like. Lord knows, you’ll be spending WAY more time next to the crib than you think you will, so choose a style or pattern that you can stomach in the middle of the night, at 7 in the morning, for months on end.
  • Your baby will likely be in that crib until they’re 2.5 or 3 years old so if you choose to spend hundreds of dollars on the bedding you love, make sure it’s a pattern that will grow with the baby.
  • Try to get something pretty that also washes well. You might get a baby with diaper explosions and you will have diapers soaking through at some point.
  • Those gorgeous sheets will have to be torn off the crib in the middle of the night at some point, so make sure you have lots of inexpensive sheets to put on while you’re gorgeous ones are being laundered.
